This is why Researchers trust Palas® Fidas Frog.

Air pollution is a global concern. According to World Health Organization, 9 out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air. Because better indoor and outdoor air quality starts with precise measurement, reliable instruments are needed. The Fidas® Frog fine dust measurement device developed by Palas® has excellent portability, battery life, and measurement results. It is, therefore suitable for a variety of research scenarios and can effectively monitor and evaluate the degree of both indoor and outdoor air pollution. In addition to the previously introduced indoor research case (please check our WeChat post “How to monitor aerosol transmission during activities” for more details), many institutions and researchers have already used Fidas® Frog to carry out various research projects.

Portability and Long Battery Life Enables Indoor and Outdoor Researches

DEKRA GmbH Stuttgart used the Fidas® Frog for assessing air quality in indoor and outdoor situations. A study carried out in the center of the city of Stuttgart involved two Fidas® Frog units. These were operated simultaneously by two employees along typical walking paths of pedestrians in the city on a working day. While one unit was taken inside public buildings, shops or underground stations, the companion unit stayed outside to allow direct comparison of indoor to outdoor air quality.

The institute for environmental and food safety of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg employed the Fidas® Frog for assessing its workplace air quality. Researchers placed the air purifier indoors and used Fidas® Frog to evaluate the air quality before and after its operation so that to evaluate its effectiveness. The result supported the investment decisions on purification facilities.

In both application cases, Palas® Fidas® Frog embodies the advantages of its portability and long battery life. Its fast measurement makes changes in PM levels clearly and immediately visible. Also, Palas® software PDAnalyze allows post-processing of data from two devices for direct comparison.

Accurate Measurement for Comparable Data

In addition to facilitating comparative analysis in different environments, the accuracy of Palas® Fidas® Frog measurement has also been recognized. At Hochschule Karlsruhe, University of Applied Sciences, researchers in traffic ecology investigated how pollution affects non-motorized road users like bicyclists, or children riding in bicycle trailers on roads or on dedicated cycling paths. The Fidas® Frog was selected for monitoring particulate matter due to its technical similarity to the EN 16450 type-approved Fidas® 200. The data recorded by the Fidas® Frog can thus be compared to PM pollution level data reported by the state network. Fidas® Frog has an intuitive and easy-to-operate user interface and has the option to record text comments and photographs in the course of a measurement. It also allows simultaneous measurement of PM10, PM2.5, and PM1. These features make it more suitable for the complex and changeable outdoor environment.
