For gas turbines, the performance testing of combustion chambers bears great importance to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The School of Energy and Power of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, an important research institution in this field, has been committed to improving the reliability and accuracy of test data. One difficulty they faced was testing the difference in particle concentration of gas turbine emissions at different energy efficiencies and the high temperature. To solve this, they chose the Palas® Promo® aerosol spectrometer. As an authorized distributor of Palas®, Link Precision Instruments (Shandong) Co., Ltd. provided timely and professional technical support. This helped them overcome testing challenges, ensured the smooth conduct of experimental tests, and promoted breakthroughs in scientific research results.
Measurement Challenge
The main research direction of the lab is gas turbine combustion chamber performance testing. The study focused on combustion and emission performance research of the combustion chamber as one of the three core components of a gas turbine. It has supported the scientific research and teaching work in the college. It has been approved for several national key fund projects and helped the college to publish results in top CAS articles.
The gas in the chamber was usually in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment that posed many difficulties for the measurement. During testing, gas turbines with different energy efficiencies emit different concentrations of particulate matter. Conventional products cannot accurately measure the size and quantity of particulate matter concentrations under this condition. Neither can they give an accurate value but results in large measurement errors and low reliability.
The Reliable Palas® Promo®
To solve the problem, Link introduced Palas® Promo® 2000 aerosol spectrometer to directly test particulate matter of gas emissions. Promo® 2000 not only meets the testing standards of the lab but also ensures reliability and reproducibility. It also guarantees the accuracy of experimental data due to its excellent stability and consistency. Besides, since the sensor and the main unit can be operated separately, it fits the working environment well.
In addition, Promo® 2000 is capable of measuring particle size and concentration of particles in real-time. Testing data can be viewed on the device monitor and analyzed by the professional software PDAnalyze. This helps to facilitate the extraction and aggregation of experimental data, providing a reliable database for subsequent analysis and research. During gas turbine combustion chamber performance testing, the high temperature of the emitted gas posed another challenge for the team. However, Promo® 2000 is equipped with a high-temperature heated sensor that can cope with these conditions, and ensure accurate and reliable measurement results. These advantages became important reasons for Jiangsu University of Science and Technology to choose Palas®.
Through this cooperation with Palas®, the School of Energy and Power of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology appreciated the professional products of Palas®, and the technical support of Link. The advantages of Palas® 2000, including stability, real-time data monitoring, and analysis functions, help them overcome the challenges in gas turbine combustion chamber performance testing. In the future, we look forward to providing technical support to more research institutions and laboratories. We aim to jointly promote the development of gas turbine technology and the progress of environmental protection.
