An article appeared in a special print publication Gefahrstoffe – Reinhaltung der Luft (Hazardous substances – air pollution control), entitled “Dilution systems for test aerosols: basic principles and application options” from Palas\u00ae experts.<\/p>\n

Commercially available dilution systems have proven themselves in practice for diluting solid aerosols in the particle size range of approx. 2 nm to 20 \u00b5m. Dilution systems often act as separators in the dilution of droplet aerosols with droplet diameters above approx. 3 \u00b5m.<\/p>\n

Since droplet aerosols larger than 4 \u03bcm cannot be reliably diluted with the dilution systems that are currently known and commercially available, Palas\u00ae GmbH has developed a new dilution system. In this design, the carrier gas of the aerosol is used as the dilution air. The aerosol measured by the welas\u00ae digital aerosol spectrometer is filtered, and this clean air is then fed back into the dilution system as dilution air. A small portion of this clean air is disposed of as waste air. The heart of this dilution system is still the mixing chamber, in which the droplet aerosols with a diameter of up to approx. 10 \u03bcm can be reliably and reproducibly diluted.<\/p>\n

In the article, the authors reveal the principles of dilution systems and present a new development of Palas, especially for droplet aerosols.<\/p>\n
