Today, a large fraction of the world\u2019s urban population is exposed to elevated concentrations of fine dust regularly. A novel approach to lower the local particle concentrations at urban hotspots is ambient air filtration.<\/p>\n<p>The authors placed a Palas\u00ae Fine dust measurement device Fidas\u00ae next to the B14 federal motorway &#8220;Am Neckartor&#8221; in Stuttgart for monitoring outdoor PM concentrations. The particle mass concentration was monitored by periodically opening and closing the filter and using an optical particle counter. Determine the effect of Palas\u00ae Fine dust measurement device Fidas\u00ae on PM<sub>10<\/sub> and PM<sub>2.5<\/sub> concentrations. After a 466-hour long-term study, PM<sub>10<\/sub> at the measurement site was reduced by an average of 10.4%. It analyzes continuously the fine dust particles present in the ambient air in the size range 180 nm \u2013 18 \u00b5m and calculates simultaneously the immission values PM<sub>10<\/sub> and PM<sub>2.5<\/sub> to be monitored by law. At the same time PM<sub>1<\/sub>, PM<sub>4<\/sub>, PM<sub>tot<\/sub>, the particle number concentration C<sub>n<\/sub>\u00a0and the particle size distribution are calculated and recorded. It thus delivers comprehensive information about the fine dust particles, as only provided by a counting, single-particle measuring principle.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, the authors describe in detail the process of using Fidas\u00ae for air quality monitoring and the method of comparing the monitoring data in the experiment.
