However, the task of air pollution prevention and control is still very arduous for China, which is facing the double pressure of relatively unfavorable meteorological conditions and a significant increase in pollution emissions. The Air Pollution Causes and Control Group of the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai University, which has long been engaged in research on the causes, sources and control of complex atmospheric pollution, used the Palas® SMPS 2050 Universal Scanning Electric Mobility particle size spectrometer to measure and analyze the particulate matter in their experiments. The Palas® device provides a graphical display of the measurement results and supports multiple interfaces and remote access, which helps to better observe the experimental data and provides strong support for the research.

Palas® U-SMPS measures aerosolized particulate matter after passing through the reaction unit.

Selection of Research Teams in Higher Education

As a national “double first-class” construction university, Shanghai University has outstanding achievements in academic research. The Air Pollution Causes and Control Group in the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering of Shanghai University has long been engaged in the research on the causes, sources and control of air pollution, and is committed to exploring the mechanism of air pollution generation and elimination, and proposing pollution control strategies. In recent years, the group has continued to focus on the areas of formation mechanism, transformation process and pollution sources of secondary pollution of particulate matter, and has achieved abundant research results. On this occasion, they used the Palas® SMPS scanning electric mobility particle size spectrometer to measure the particles generated by the oxidation of gases by OH radicals in an oxidizing flow reactor. The Palas® SMPS not only meets the laboratory’s testing needs, but also has excellent stability and consistency. It ensures the reliability and reproducibility of the experimental results and provides a guarantee for the accuracy of the experimental data.

School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Shanghai University

Real-time data display, stable and reliable

The Palas® SMPS is capable of measuring particle size and number concentration of particulate matter in real time.
