New particle measuring method – More suitable for the latest trend

Palas®, the German expert in measuring particles, was invited to attend the 25th Air Pollution Control Seminar in Xi’an on April 10th and 11th. Ms. Jun Deng, Environment and Automotive Business Development Manager, talked about the applications of new aerosol spectral methods in the research of fine particles. In her speech she introduced the aerosol spectrometer Fidas® and air quality monitor AQ guard, as well as portable air quality monitor Fidas® Frog from Palas® followed by a lively discussion with the participating experts.

Environmental protection is top of the agenda

Organized by Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, the seminar was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province this year, with the theme: “Enhancing the control of PM2.5 and ozone to further improve the environment”. Li Chunhong, Secretary General of the Chinese society of Environmental Sciences, and Zhang Jindong, Deputy Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment were present to share their knowledge. Industry experts shared their opinions and insights on current policies, cutting-edge technologies, and successful cases based on The Fourteenth Five-Year Plan.

Ms. Jun Deng, focused in her speech on the topic of “Applications of New Aerosol Spectral Methods in the Research of Fine Particles” in the session of Quantitative relationship between regional atmospheric oxidation capacity and air quality and its control principles. She analyzed the limitations of traditional monitoring methods in the latest domestic particle measuring trend, introduced the Single Particle Aerosol Distribution Spectrometers (SPADS) in detail, and shared several application cases of Palas® rigs in different scenarios such as urban area, airport and port. The speech was well acclaimed by the present experts leading to a fruitful discussion.

New measuring methods for China

In recent years, domestic environment protection is becoming more and more effective. The particle concentration throughout the whole country therefore drops, and the demand for fine particle measurement is gradually expanding. However, the traditional particle measuring method is not efficient enough to study the particle characteristics of fine particles. The Single Particle Aerosol Distribution Spectrometers (SPADS) are able to monitor particle concentrations in each second. Certified by authoritative organizations, Palas® spectrometers can effectively eliminate coincidence error and boundary error so that the measurement results are more consistent with the gravimetric method thanks to the patented design. Besides, the spectrometer can realize single particle calibration, saving maintenance time and costs. It provides particle concentration and size distribution simultaneously as well to avoid data inversion.

The Palas® team brought Fidas® 200, Fidas® Frog and AQ guard to the seminar so that the participants had the chance to experience the solutions first hand.

Palas® will continue to develop particle measurement instruments with more advanced technical features to help more universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises improve the domestic environment.
