Palas® Introduces New Environmental Monitoring System

Air pollution is a major environmental health problem that affects people’s health. To reduce air pollution, continuous and flexible measurements of particulate matter concentrations and distributions are needed, allowing conclusions to be drawn about the cause and predictions to be made. For a long time, the fine dust measurement expert Palas® has continuously expanded its own technical reserves and developed fine dust measurement devices. With the new aerosol spectrometer AQ Guard Smart, you now have a regulatory measuring device that meets your requirements and contributes to improving ecological environmental quality.

Like all Palas® fine dust devices, the AQ Guard Smart also works according to the proven principle of optical measurement and classification of individual particles, which we have significantly improved. If required, the device can be equipped with additional sensors, such as weather or gas measurement technology. It can also provide information about the origin of the pollution. The AQ Guard Smart is the perfect addition to the Palas® portfolio for mobile or stationary outdoor air quality measurements. Palas® places great emphasis on providing its customers with accurate and stable monitoring technology and economic benefits. At the time of the launch of the new generation of AQ Guard Smart monitors, a trade-in service will be offered for users in the Asian market.

Air quality monitoring after volcanic eruptions

Since 19 September 2021, La Palma, which is part of the Canary Islands in Spain, has been experiencing a volcanic eruption the likes of which has not been seen for 50 years. Dr Maximilian Weiß, Managing Director of Palas® GmbH, reacted quickly. When he saw the news, he immediately assembled a Palas® team of experts and flew them from the headquarters in Karlsruhe to the hard-hit Spanish island. Shortly after their arrival, the Germans installed ten AQ Guard Smart fine dust monitoring systems. Thanks to these installations, the Spanish authorities received accurate data on the current air quality. Due to the better understanding of the situation, they were able to take appropriate measures. This is not the first time that Palas® has supported the authorities during a volcanic eruption.

Immission Protiction during Construction or Demolition Work

During the preparation of construction sites, during construction or demolition work, there is usually a considerable amount of dust generated. This often leads to complaints from residents to the local authorities and labour inspectorates. Dust generation, reporting, assessment and countermeasures extend over a considerable period of time. This is a serious obstacle to the effective and timely use of immission control measures. MyAtmosphere is a cloud-based air quality data platform. The proven Palas® AQ Guard Smart fine dust measuring device, which was developed for use on construction sites, enables the continuous recording, visualisation and monitoring of fine dust pollution. Wind direction and speed can also be taken into account. When limit values are reached, the construction site operator or the responsible authority automatically receives a notification or a visual signal on site so that dust-reducing measures can be initiated or reinforced. Residents can also obtain information about air quality online. Construction site operators, authorities and residents thus have transparency about the current situation at all times and the possibility to implement the best possible immission protection during the construction phase.
