Palas® Real-Time Monitoring Technology supported the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games

The Winter Paralympics in Beijing ended successfully in mid-March. During the competitions, air quality in the competition area continued to be excellent, and concentrations of many air pollutants decreased significantly compared to the previous year. The China National Environmental Monitoring Centre (CNEMC), responsible for monitoring air quality during the Winter Paralympics, chose the Palas® AQ Guard Ambient Air Quality Monitor. Thanks to real-time monitoring in a moving vehicle, the device helped ensure air quality throughout the Games.

Official trusted choice

China National Environmental Monitoring Center functions as a national ecological environmental monitoring technology center, network center, data center, quality control center and training center. The main function is to undertake the national task of ecological environmental monitoring and lead the development of ecological environmental monitoring technology. The institution provides monitoring information, reports and technical support for national ecological environmental management and decision-making, and technical guidance for national ecological environmental monitoring work. When China National Environmental Monitoring Center needed to deploy a moving vehicle for real-time monitoring during the Winter and Paralympic Games, they decided to choose the easy-to-install, plug-in AQ Guard Ambient.

The AQ Guard Ambient has a compact design. It can be easily mounted in a car for mobile ambient air monitoring. Not only does it meet the monitoring data requirements, but it does not require any physical redesign of existing vehicles. In just a few days, the device was installed and successfully connected to the data platform of the China National Environmental Monitoring Center.

A game-changer in real-time monitoring

The reason the Palas® AQ Guard air quality monitor was selected for this support mission is that the high temporal resolution of the instrument meets the needs of navigational monitoring during the support period. At the same time, the mass and number concentrations of particulate matter can be displayed in real time. Using Palas® single particle aerosol particle size distribution spectrometer technology, CNEMC can also detect the particle size distribution of the most important particles, opening up new possibilities in the field of air quality analysis.
